Star Trails

12:51 AM / /

Tonight, after much anticipation I decided to try my hand at star trails photography. To put it simply, this is where you take one extremely long exposure for usually an hour, or hundreds of pictures spread out over the span of an hour and merge them together in photoshop or another program. When you do this on a clear night you are able to see the the stars move in the sky, which leave trails. Matt and I were in very un-ideal conditions but I think the finished result isnt that bad. I did this without a shutter release cable, with no battery grip, and with possibly the cheapest tripod I have ever used. I decided to take multiple exposures instead of one long one and we did it over the span of about 30-40 minutes. I was unable to take a foreground exposure and I also cut the camera off before it was finished processing the photos.(We were on someones property and they turned on their lights when the dogs started barking. We had been warned that the man likes to shoot and then ask questions later) I promise to have more of these coming as soon as my shutter release cable and battery grip come in. Hope you enjoy.
